Former Oracle Team USA skipper Jimmy Spithill has spoken about his feelings after his disastrous America's Cup campaign, that saw his side surrender the Auld Mug to a dominant Team New Zealand in Bermuda earlier this year.
Spithill, 38, was at the helm of Team USA's defence, before Team New Zealand romped to an 8-1 Cup victory, and is now in New Zealand ahead of the start of today's Coastal Classic, where he will sail with Frank Racing.
Speaking to 1 NEWS, Spithill spoke about life post-America's Cup, and what he took away from the defeat.
"You need time to think things through, and I think learn a lot of the lessons, because you have to," he said.
"It's been great really reflecting on it, and a lot to be learned."
"I think that's what's great about sport, campaigns and working with a lot of people is that it's challenging, but you grow personally as well - and that can only come through time and experience."
Spithill was also coy about questions regarding his future.
"You'll have to wait and see," he laughed.
