Independent Review into Cycling NZ fails to meet deadline

Mark Lucas spent 35 years in the sport, but in the end he walked away.

High Performance Sport NZ has confirmed the independent review which was due to be released tomorrow now won't be made public until mid-October, six weeks late.

The review by Michael Heron QC was commissioned in June following 1 NEWS' investigations into allegations of bullying and inappropriate behaviour at Cycling New Zealand.

HPSNZ says more time is needed to complete interviews and for those involved to provide comments.

Before it's made public the report will be presented to the boards of HPSNZ and Cycling NZ.

1 NEWS understands those who've given evidence have been told the review has uncovered more issues than initially anticipated.

Since the Cycling NZ review was commissioned NZ Football and NZ Hockey have also started reviews into their culture and player welfare.
