'Hopefully we can fight' - Floyd Mayweather hints at Conor McGregor rematch, seeks MMA licence

March 20, 2018

Speculation is mounting of a second encounter between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor could be on the cards, with news that the American is seeking his mixed martial arts licence.

Following his boxing victory over McGregor last year, Mayweather has again teased coming out of retirement, this time hinting at getting qualified to fight in the octagon, as opposed to the ring.

Speaking to TMZ, Mayweather outlined his desire to continue his fighting career.

"Eventually, we're going to apply for the licence. Hopefully, we can fight," he said.

"It will probably be a little bit longer. Even if it takes six to eight months. Whatever it takes, we want to make sure that everything is done correctly and everything is done the right way."

Mayweather, who boasts a professional record of 50-0, is confident in his abilities to transition from boxing to MMA - the reverse of what McGregor did for last year's fight.

"I can wrestle. My wrestling game is not that bad. On a scale from one to 10, I would say it's probably a seven."

"We can take it up to a nine, if possible. Of course my hand game, on a scale of one to 10, it's 100."
