Hockey NZ to hold independent review after complaints about culture in Black Sticks women

August 20, 2018

It follows claims made against Black Sticks coach Mark Hager.

Hockey New Zealand will hold an independent review looking into concerns voiced by current and past Black Sticks women's players at the Hockey Players Association.

Last week 1 NEWS revealed coach Mark Hager accidentally  sent an email that was highly critical of several players at the World Cup to the entire team.

Other players spoke to 1 NEWS about the negative culture within the squad, with one, Amelia Gibson, saying it promoted her to retire from international duty.

Mark Hager created a rift with his players and New Zealand Hockey after mistakenly sending a critical email to his team during the World Cup last month.

The review will look at feedback given by past and present players.

The players association are planning to meet with Hockey New Zealand after Black Sticks Women’s coach Mark Hager's email blunder.
