'Give NZ something to be proud of' – new Kiwi baseball team not just making up the numbers

The newly-unveiled Auckland Tuatara are confident they have a top roster and staff.

New Zealand’s first professional baseball franchise officially has a name.

Just two months before their very first Australian Baseball League game, The Auckland Tuatara are official.

They now have a coach as well with former major league pitcher Steve Mintz signing with the franchise.

Mintz, who is currently on the staff of the Texas Rangers, is joined by other former major league players DJ Carrasco and Darren Bragg.

He said the organisation was coming together strong.

"We are putting together an unbelievable staff and we are putting together a great team to be able to give the people of New Zealand something to be proud about."

Having already announced the signing of former MLB pitcher Josh Collmenter, four current Diamondblacks have also been added to the roster.

Daniel Lamb-Hunt, Beau Bishop, Max Brown and Scott Cone have all joined the team, with others such as former Brisbane Bandit Andrew Marck also looking to join the team.

"I've played alongside pretty much every one of these guys so far and I know that they're full of talent," Marck said.
