The promoters of Joseph Parker, DUCO Events have been stunned to hear news the Parker-Fury WBO World title fight will be called off.
The Puerto Rico based president of the WBO has tweeted this afternoon the fight has been cancelled.
DUCO founder David Higgins has confirmed to 1 NEWS the Furys have contacted the WBO and cited injury concerns as a possible reason for withdrawal.
Higgins says he's upset by the news.
The Fury camp haven't confirmed when they're arriving in New Zealand and have been unclear on other preparation details.
A replacement fighter could now be lined up, which the WBO says they would agree to, but the promotion is now less than two weeks away in Auckland and Parker's handlers would have to find a lesser opponent at short notice.
DUCO might decide to cancel the May 6th event and look to have Joseph Parker fighting later in the year.
