A South American man has been taught a brutal lesson in karma after attempting to rob a woman who turned out to be a professional mixed martial arts fighter.
UFC strawweight Polyana Viana was waiting outside her apartment in Rio de Janeiro on the weekend when a thief approached her for her phone, threatening her in the process, she said.
"He said, 'Give me the phone. Don't try to react, because I'm armed,'" Viana told MMA Junkie.
"Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft."
Realising she had a window of opportunity to strike, the Brazilian fighter took matters into her own hands, using her MMA skills to immobolise the would-be robber until local authorities arrived.
"I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear naked choke. Then I sat him down and said, 'Now we'll wait for the police.'"
UFC boss Dana White shared pictures of both Viana and the robber on his Instagram, showing the damage the 26-year-old did with her combo of blows.
"Bad f***ing idea," he captioned the post.
Viana has a 10-2 MMA record but her last fight ended in a decision loss to JJ Aldrich at UFC 227 in August last year.
