'Deontay Wilder did enough to win' - Kiwi fighter Junior Fa backed US sparring partner against Fury

December 3, 2018

The 29-year-old thought Wilder's two knockdowns in the fight was enough to get him the win in his split decision draw against Tyson Fury in LA yesterday.

Kiwi heavyweight boxer Junior Fa believed WBC champion Deontay Wilder did enough to get the win in his title fight against Tyson Fury, after knocking the British fighter down twice in Los Angeles yesterday.

Fa, 29, sparred with Wilder in preparation for his fight with Fury.

The fight between Wilder and Fury ended in a split decision draw, with many boxing experts saying Fury was robbed of a win after dominating Wilder for most of the fight.

"In my eyes I thought that Deontay Wilder did enough to win that fight, especially with the two knock downs," said Fa.

"But online it seemed like a lot of people had it towards Fury, so maybe I was watching (through) biased eyes or something."

Wilder dropped Fury in the ninth and 12th round of their WBC heavyweight title fight.

"I told everyone I would have to re-watch it again, then I will have to come up with another outcome.

"But that doesn't change the fact, the fight was a good fight."

Fa said yesterday's heavyweight showdown was a great spectacle, which lived up to the hype.

"I think that (bout) showed everything, it showed world class boxing, power and will from Tyson Fury.

"He got dropped twice, one of them was very heavy in the last round and he somehow came back. He definitely made a great account of himself."

Judge Alejandro Rochin marked Wilder as the winner, 115-111 on his scorecard, with Robert Tapper giving the fight to Fury 114-112 and Phil Edwards scored the fight 113-113 - draw.
