Dan Hooker pokes fun at UFC star Israel Adesanya, says teammate can buy a house after every fight

February 11, 2019

Hooker said Adesanya has reached new heights for a Kiwi in the UFC and that he’s reaping the benefits financially.

New Zealand UFC lightweight fighter Dan Hooker poked fun of his mixed martial arts teammate Israel Adesnaya after his win over Anderson Silva yesterday at UFC 234 in Melbourne.

Hooker, 28, said Adesanya could probably buy a house after every fight, with his star power status in the UFC.

"Israel financially is on good money. He's on - buy a house in Auckland after every fight - money," joked Hooker.

"I don't know exactly because I don't ask him, more because I don't want to know. He's doing alright."

Jokes aside, Hooker believes Adesanya's next fight will be a shot at a middleweight title.

"I think he has set himself up as the next big thing, the next big star [in the UFC]," Hooker said.

"He was promised a title shot off of this fight, so how that plays out with the champ [Robert Whittaker] pulling out last minute with the hernia.

"He [Adesanya] may fight for an interim title against Kelvin Gastelum, only time is going to show us that and time is going to show us how that plays out.

"He's definitely set himself up for the title."

Adesanya earned a Fight of the Night bonus of NZ$73,965 for his main event fight against Silva.
