June 22, 2018

Former Ottawa Senators goalie Chris Driedger spoke to 1 NEWS ahead of tonight's match at Spark Arena.

Former Ottawa Senators goalie Chris Dreidger says that the Canadian contingent for tonight's Ice Hockey Classic can't wait to hit the ice, at Spark Arena, as they prepare to face the USA in Auckland.

Driedger, 24, is just one of many stars with NHL connections on show in tonight's match, giving Kiwi fans a taste of live ice hockey.

Speaking to 1 NEWS this morning, Driedger said that his side are looking forward to putting on a good display against their old foes, the USA.

"The guys are really excited to play in front of New Zealand fans," he said.

"We're looking forward to just getting out there and putting on a good game of hockey.

"Canada and the US - we don't really like each other that much, but we're all friend. When it comes to the game, we're all pretty competitive guys, we're looking forward to putting on a good show."

Driedger also said that fans expecting some classic ice hockey fights might not get what they want out of tonight's clash.

"I'm a goalie, so we're nice.

"Most of us are good friends - I don't know if there's any plans to put on any fights.

"But you never know, we've got a couple of strong personalities out there, anything can happen."
