Black Ferns Sevens get defensive advise from Super Rugby champion coach Scott Robertson

October 9, 2018

The team is based in Tauranga preparing for their upcoming 2018/2019 world series.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson shared some of his defensive knowledge with the Black Ferns women’s sevens team who are in Tauranga preparing for the upcoming 2018/2019 world series.

Robertson has won two back-to-back Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders and knows a thing or two around defensive patterns.

The 44-year-old went through a few defensive drills with players in the Black Ferns sevens squad today.

Black Ferns sevens star Stacey Waaka has been part of the New Zealand sevens side since 2016 and believes Robertson’s expertise is invaluable.

"Yeah it was awesome, took his knowledge from defence," said Waaka.

"Lots of learnings from him, little things that would never really think of.

"Having his expertise in our team was really, really helpful."

The Black Ferns sevens team have had a solid 2018 season, winning the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games gold in April and were crowned Sevens World Cup champions in July.
