Auckland Tuatara baseballers hold moment of silence for late teammate Ryan Costello

The Auckland Tuatara baseball team have paid tribute to late teammate Ryan Costello ahead of their opening game of the season.

Before last night's clash with Perth, players held a moment of silence for the American, who died in his sleep last Sunday.

The 23-year-old had recently joined the club, with initial indications being that he died of natural causes.

The 23-year-old died suddenly yesterday morning, having just joined the Kiwi team from the United States.

Perth won the season opener in Auckland 6-1.
