‘Idiot’ trespasser runs onto track at Wellington Cup, narrowly avoids disaster

A track invader at the Wellington Cup today was lucky not to cause or suffer serious injuries.

Video shows the horses somehow managing to avoid the trespasser, who winning jockey Craig Grylls perhaps generously referred to as an idiot.

The drama came a race after Melody Belle equalled Sunline as the only other New Zealand mare to post 13 Group One wins.

In her first race in two months, Melody Belle left it a little later than some expected.
