'We will definitely be tested' – Silver Ferns anticipating clash with rivals Australia

Silver Ferns coach Noeline Taurua says her side are looking forward to renewing their rivalry with the Diamonds, as New Zealand and Australia prepare to face off in the Quad Series finale in Melbourne tomorrow.

With Taurua's side looking to help restore credibility to the black dress following a disastrous end to predecessor Janine Southby's tenure, the Silver Ferns now face arguably the most difficult task in world netball - defeating Australia at home.

Speaking to 1 NEWS earlier this week though, Taurua said that she was eager to see her side face off against the best.

"It's a great opportunity. I'm excited by us playing against the Australians," Taurua began.

"Obviously they're number one in the world in our sport."

"The only way that we're going to see realistically how good or how far we are is to play against the best."

"We will definitely be tested, and I'm excited by that challenge."

Taurua also addressed the Ferns' recent history tipping in favour of Australia, with New Zealand having claimed just two wins in their last 13 matches.

However, the Ferns coach is adamant that the chance for redemption won't be wasted by her side.

"It's probably a sad place where we're currently sitting at the moment."

"The good thing is that we have the opportunity once again, not only to play Australia in the Quad Series, but also with four Tests in the Constellation Cup.

"I'm very aware that in my tenure as head coach, we've got to take baby steps.

"When we've taken the court against England and South Africa, we have improved. But once again, we have to take that next step up.

"We just have to keep moving and progressing and getting our game better."

The Silver Ferns face the Diamonds tomorrow afternoon.
