Watch: Ex-Silver Fern says Janine Southby's position as coach now untenable

April 17, 2018

Louisa Wall believes the Southby has lost the trust of the players following the Commonwealth Games.

Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby is no longer the right person for the job, former player and current MP Louisa Wall says.

During Southby's tenure, the Silver Ferns have plummeted in world netball's standings, with historic defeats to the likes of Jamaica and Malawi, before missing out on a Commonwealth Games medal on the Gold Coast last week.

Speaking to 1 NEWS, Wall made it clear that she believes a new coach has to be appointed.

"I think the challenges going forward in the short term, given that we have a Netball World Cup next year, must be on a process that looks at finding a coach, and very quickly," she said.

"Unfortunately, I don't think Janine Southby has the confidence of the players, of netballers generally, and now unfortunately of the public."
