'So proud about the fight' – Silver Ferns coach reflects on narrow loss to Australia

January 20, 2019

Noeline Taurua spoke to 1 NEWS after her side's 53-50 defeat.

Silver Ferns coach Noeline Taurua says she's proud of her side, in the wake of this morning's narrow 53-50 defeat to Australia in the Quad Series.

Having gotten off to a slow start, Taurua's side rallied in the final quarter, clawing back from a 10-goal deficit to narrowly miss out on an upset victory over the Diamonds in London.

Speaking afterwards though, Taurua said that while she was disappointed with the result, there were plenty of positives for the Silver Ferns to take from the defeat.

"We started off really slowly, really hesitant and coughed up enough ball," Taurua told 1 NEWS.

"I thought defensively, we actually did turn over the ball but weren't able to secure it down the other end. That's really disappointing, that's been the common theme but [I'm] so proud about the fight, and us been able to stick it for the third and fourth quarter."

The Silver Ferns finish their Quad Series campaign against South Africa tomorrow.
