Former captain Katrina Rore axed as Silver Ferns' Quad Series squad announced

December 14, 2018

Katrina Rore (Grant) was left out of Taurua's squad which will compete next month in England, after a horror 2018.

Former Silver Ferns captain Katrina Rore (formerly Grant) is the surprise omission from Noeline Taurua's squad for next month's Quad Series in England.

Coach Taurua has named a 12-strong squad to head to England, where the Ferns will also face off against Australia and South Africa.

Young mid-courter Kimiora Poi is a notable inclusion, having impressed in the ANZ Premiership for the Tactix, as well as for the Fast Ferns at the Fast5 series earlier this year, while Whitney Souness has been recalled.

Casey Kopua has also been brought back into the squad, with her last appearance in the black dress coming over three years ago in October 2015.

Rore's non-selection is the major talking point however, wth Erena Mikare earning her first call-up, having played under Taurua at the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Rore led the Silver Ferns for much of a disastrous 2018, including an embarrassing showing at the Commonwealth Games, where they finished outside the medals for the first time.

The Silver Ferns begin the tournament against hosts England on January 13 in Liverpool.
