No rest for champ Scott McLaughlin as he promotes next gen of motorsport stars

The 25-year-old is the Kartsport NZ patron, and is aiming to raise money so every club can afford its own coach to mentor the next generation.

After his dramatic Supercars victory at Pukekohe over the weekend, Kiwi driver Scott McLaughlin's not using his time to rest.

Instead, he's helping secure the future of the sport in New Zealand - having spent yesterday fronting the Scott McLaughlin Grand Prix at Hampton Downs, a pro-am motorsport day where corporates team up with high-profile athletes to complete various challenges.

The KartSport New Zealand patron said he's happy to help.

"It's so cool, and almost a privilege to be a role model for some young people coming through," he said, adding that to "give back to the sport is awesome".

The event was followed yesterday evening by a black tie charity gala, with the goal of raising enough money to have a coach at every club in the country to mentor the next generation of Kiwi motorsport stars.
