Mick Schumacher follows in dad's footsteps, reportedly signs deal with Ferrari

The son of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has reportedly taken another step to following in his father's footsteps after signing on with Ferrari as an academy driver.

Mick Schumacher will race in Formula 2 this season with top Italian team Prema, but the BBC reports sources close to Ferrari have confirmed a deal which will see the 19-year-old undertake two tests with Ferrari's F1 team this year.

Ferrari said they refuse to officially confirm any deal but admitted discussions had taken place and they were interested in him joining their academy.

Schumacher won the European Formula 3 Championship last year before spending time post-season doing tests with Ferrari in Abu Dhabi in November.

Schumacher's dad won five of his seven F1 championships with Ferrari but has not been seen publically for years after suffering brain injuries from a skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013.

His family have kept updates on his condition to a minimum since the accident.
