Ambitious crowdfunding raises $2m for Otago chocolate business

An ambitious crowd funding effort to support chocolate making in Dunedin has quickly reached its goal, with $2 million worth of pledges received in just a day and a half.

The Own the Factory campaign came about due to the imminent closure of Dunedin's Cadbury chocolate factory.

The 3,500 people who pledged a minimum of one hundred dollars each are now shareholders in the new Otago chocolate business.

Campaign organiser Jim O'Malley says the share float will enable the company to move to bigger premises next year, and gradually hire more staff.
