'You're not going to put ointment on a scab' – ex-Kiwis star calls for full-scale NZRL clear-out

November 20, 2017

Tony Kemp says the problems in the Kiwis' camp extend far beyond the players and coach.

Former Kiwis utility and Warriors coach Tony Kemp is calling for wide-scale changes within New Zealand Rugby League, following the disastrous World Cup campaign that ended at the hands of Fiji last week.

After it was announced yesterday  that NZRL will be conducting an independent review into the team to determine how this year's World Cup could go so wrong, Kemp suggested things be taken a step further, with the whole organisation in need of change.

"It's about putting the right people in that review position, and accepting that it's a wider issue than just the Kiwi team" Kemp told Te Karere.

"You're not going to put some ointment on a scab and think that it's going to go away, you need to deal with the core issue.

"For me, the core issue is an organisational issue - it's not just about the Kiwi team."

The Kiwis half was in shock after his side were unable to overcome Fiji in Wellington.

Adam Blair tried his best to keep his composure during a post-match interview after his side’s 4-2 loss in Wellington.
