Watch: New Warriors owners outline long-term vision for the franchise including retaining grassroots Kiwi talent

May 2, 2018

Cameron McGregor and Mark Robinson say they already have plans to help the Warriors succeed for years to come.

The new owners of the Warriors have already hinted on what they plan to bring to the table for the Auckland-based NRL club, stating a long-term vision of stability both financially and talent-wise as key areas of focus.

Auckland Rugby League and Carlaw Park Heritage Trust chairman Cameron McGregor and Autex Industries owner Mark Robinson were confirmed as the successful bidders to secure the club off Eric Watson, with the duo taking over the role "virtually right now".

McGregor said they don't plan to heavily intervene in the day-to-day running of the club, instead leaving their trust in current CEO Cameron Goerge.

"The emphasis is that we're here for the long-term - we want to bring stability to the club.

Cameron McGregor and Mark Robinson say they're pleased with how the team is being run currently.

"It's all about the future for us and providing the platform to enable the club to go into the future with confidence and build on what Cameron and his team have been doing in the first few months of this year."

The two met with players and staff today to introduce themselves before announcing the transition of ownership this afternoon officially at the press conference.

McGregor said the club was going well at the moment both on and off the field but a long-term vision was needed to see the club discover and use local talent.

"We've been losing a lot of our youngsters in Auckland - 500 a year," McGregor said.

"We see this as an opportunity long-term to reestablish the pathways in the game so that our under-sixes will have a vision to play right through to the NRL."
