Warriors prop James Gavet is reportedly leaving the club in a shock move to join the Newcastle Knights on a two-year deal.

The New Zealand Herald reports the Warriors have released the 29-year-old from the final year of his deal to join Newcastle today.

The report comes after Gavet posted a cryptic message on social media today, saying he was "done and done" at Mount Smart.

"Thanks for the ride fam. OUTTA HERE," he wrote on Instagram.

The Samoan International was a regular player for the Warriors last season, making 19 appearances in the club's return to the NRL playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.

Gavet joined the Kiwi NRL club in 2016 after stints with the Bulldogs, West Tigers and Broncos.
