Warriors under fire for attempted poaching of Parramatta teen

February 18, 2019

The Warriors and scout Peter O'Sullivan are under fire after an attempt to sign Parramatta Eels youngster Dylan Brown, alleged to be in breach of the NRL's anti-tampering rules.

In a report from the Sydney Morning Herald, the Warriors are claimed to have made an offer to make Brown, 18, the highest paid player yet to play first-grade, with a deal worth $3.12 million.

However, with Brown contracted until the end of the 2020 season, the Warriors would be in breach of the NRL's player acquisition rules, only able to attempt to sign players on November 1 the year before the end of their current deal.

Sanctions could follow if the Warriors are deemed to have broken the rules, with scout O'Sullivan's name at the bottom of the proposed contract offer.

Warriors CEO Cameron George has said, however, that the club has not intentionally acted against the NRL's regulations.

"We approached [Brown] on the understanding he was off contract at the end of 2019, which we're entitled to do," George told Fairfax.

"It was later cleared up [by his agent] that he had a variation [in his Parramatta contract] that committed him until 2020 and that was it."

This isn't the first time O'Sullivan has been in hot water with the NRL. He was also involved in the Melbourne Storm's salary cap scandal back in 2010.
