Warriors summon Mason Lino to replace injured halfback Shaun Johnson for clash against Cowboys

Injured halfback Shaun Johnson will be replaced by Mason Lino for his first match in nearly two years when the Warriors face North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday.

Coincidentally the 23-year-old returns to face the side he debuted against, when the Warriors played the Cowboys at Mount Smart Stadium on August 22, 2015.

It was one of three games he played in towards the end of the Warriors' 2015 campaign.

Lino’s selection comes after confirmation yesterday that Johnson will be out for six to eight weeks after rupturing the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during last Friday's loss to the Penrith.

“It’s tough losing a player of Shaun’s calibre but we know Mason will do a good job for us,” said Warriors head coach Stephen Kearney.

“He has been really consistent for our ISP side. At the same time, we have Ata on the bench with his ability to cover the halves and hooker.”

Lino is the only change to the starting line-up which played in that 22-34 loss to the Panthers, with Hingano to continue his role off the bench.
