Mate Ma'a Tonga star Will Hopoate offered some handy life lessons to youth prisoners at Christchurch men's prison today, saying he learnt what not to do by doing the opposite of what his father John Hopoate infamously did on - and off the footy field.
Hopoate, 25, left the youth offenders and his own teammates laughing as he explained how he learned how to stay out of trouble.
"I was lucky enough, if you know my dad he did all the dumb stuff," said Hopoate.
"So he taught me everything of what not to do, so a crash test dummy for me."
Tongan players visited the prison and mingled with the troubled youths ahead of their quarter-final match against Lebanon on Saturday.
