Stephen Kearney re-signs with Warriors for another three years

February 26, 2019

Kearney will stay at Mt Smart until at least 2022, re-signing with the club this morning.

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney has recommitted to the club, penning a contract extension through to the end of the 2022 season.

Off-contract at the end of 2019, CEO Cameron George last week stated his desire to keep Kearney at the club, offering new terms on a new three-year deal.

Kearney, 46, is about to enter his third season with the Warriors, and last year took the club to the NRL finals for the first time since 2011.

Fronting the media alongside George and captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck this morning, Kearney spoke about his desire to remain with the Warriors.

"Obviously [I'm] very pleased," Kearney began.

"I feel very privileged to be able to have the opportunity to look after the group for the next - including this year - four years.

"[I'm] looking forward to working hard at getting what everyone wants at the footy club, that's making [us] a very successful, consistent footy club.

"That's my number one priority."

Should Kearney stay with the Warriors for the full duration of the new deal, he will equal Ivan Cleary's record as the club's longest serving coach.
