'Send my love to him and his family' – Gerard Beale injury opens door for Peta Hiku

October 30, 2017

Hiku is a candidate to replace the injured Beale for the rest of NZ’s World Cup campaign.

Kiwis utility Peta Hiku has given his best to injured teammate Gerard Beale, after the centre was ruled out of the rest of this year's Rugby League World Cup with a broken ankle.

Beale, 27, was taken from the field during the Kiwis' 38-8 win over Samoa in their opening match of the tournament, before undergoing surgery on Sunday that will see him on the sidelines until well into 2018.

Hiku and Dean Whare are the most likely replacements for Beale in the centres ahead of the Kiwis' next match against Scotland, with the new Warriors signing feeling for his club and country teammate Beale.

"That's very disappointing, all the best to him. Send my love to him and his family," Hiku said.

"I suppose that's just football, you can go out there expecting to play for 80 minutes but anything could happen."

"Unfortunately, it's happened to our team."
