Rookie Warriors half scores the winner in pre-season trial against Storm

February 23, 2019

The Warriors have begun their 2019 pre-season in style, coming away with an impressive 12-6 victory over the Melbourne Storm in Geelong.

With coach Stephen Kearney handing minutes to a number of youngsters ahead of the 2019 season, all eyes were on the halves trio of Chanel Harris-Tavita, Adam Keighran and Hayze Perham, all vying to replace the departed Shaun Johnson.

It took the Warriors just four minutes to open the scoring, with rookie Neria Fomai making the most of an overlap on Melborune's left edge.

The Warriors' defensive efforts would then hold out for the rest of the first half, keeping Melbourne scoreless before the break.

However, it would be the 2018 NRL runners up that were next on the scoresheet, with centre Cheyse Blair levelling the scores just after the hour mark.

It would be Hayze Perham that had the final say though, showing impressive footwork to slice right through the Storm's defence to score in the final moments, giving the Warriors a hard fought victory.

There were also positive signs for the hooker duo of Sam Cook and the returning Nathaniel Roache, both putting in solid performances after various injury woes during 2018.

The Warriors' final pre-season trial is next weekend, taking on the Wests Tigers in Whangarei.
