Roger Tuivasa-Sheck: We love the bandwagon supporters - 'Thank you for jumping on!'

April 11, 2018

Captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck says his side aren't distracted by the plaudits coming their way.

Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck isn't worried about "bandwagon" fans supporting the team all of a sudden after their scintillating start to the NRL season - he's actually thankful they're doing so.

The Kiwi NRL club is off to it's best start ever since joining the competition in 1995, starting out a perfect five wins from five matches so far.

Their latest win came after beating the North Queensland Cowboys 22-12 on Saturday, doing so in front of a sold out Mt Smart Stadium crowd of 25,600 fans.

Cameron George says everyone is coming together to give back to their loyal fans.

Tuivasa-Sheck said while some of the fans aren't the loyal bunch who have stuck by them through thick and thin, the team is approaching the sudden influx of support with a "the more the merrier" approach.

"We love it," Tuivasa-Sheck said.

"I know there are a lot of loyal fans out there who are disappointed, you can't blame them.

"But they're loving how we're going, they're supporting us and it's only a good thing to get their support.

After a disastrous 2017, Cameron George says the club are keeping things simple.

"So thank you for jumping on board."

The crowd numbers are a strong contrast to their first home game of this season which saw 14,132 people attend their 20-8 win over the Gold Coast Titans, and an even bigger contrast to the 10,182 who turned out to their final home game of the 2017 season.

They lost that game to the Raiders 36-16.

The All Blacks captain has taught the Warriors some new tricks for 2018.

The Warriors play another two home games before their next trip to Australia, hosting the Broncos this weekend before the table-topping Dragons the following Friday.

Should the Warriors beat the Broncos and the Dragons overcome the Sharks this week in their round 6 clash, it will set up a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash with both teams entering the match undefeated in 2018.

Tuivasa-Sheck said the team isn't worried about their streak as much as they are about putting in a good performance week in and week out.

"We just look back to previous years and that's what drives us," he said.

"We don't want to be a team that just wins five games and then falls away.

"We want to be a team that continues to grow from here and if we start to celebrate too early, we can fall off the wagon so we've got to keep working each week."

The Warriors play the Broncos at 5pm NZT on Saturday.
