'I was pretty annoyed' - under-fire Warriors coach disappointed with effort in embarrassing loss to lowly Knights

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney has put his foot down, demoting his side's most experienced hooker Issac Luke after the New Zealand club went down 26-10 to the lowly Knights on Saturday.

Stephen Kearney criticised some of his players for their lacklustre performance in his side's 26-10 loss to Newcastle.

Luke has been demoted to the bench with Kearney opting to start 21-year-old Nathaniel Roache in the number nine jersey against the Raiders this Sunday.

"We have an expectation as a group and I feel that he (Luke) didn't quite reach that level," said Kearney.

"As I said all along if I think there is an opportunity someone can do a job which is going to be better this week, then I will make necessary changes."

The Warriors team reviewed their match against the Knights yesterday, with Kearney saying they were honest with their critiques with some of the lackluster performances.

"I was pretty annoyed after the match on Saturday, I just thought there were some individuals where I didn't see that effort that was there previous."

The Warriors skipper admitted he had a lot to work on, saying he was at fault for overplaying things during his side's awful run.

The Warriors chances of making the NRL's playoffs are all but over after their loss to the Knights.

"I just thought the month previous where we had four games, if we take ourselves back to Manly, Penrith, Cowboys and the Sharks.

"In every one of those games we gave ourselves an opportunity because we were competing.

"Our execution wasn’t quite right in those games, but the effort was there."

Ryan Hoffman returns for the Warriors this week against Canberra after being side-lined with a foot injury which he suffered during his team's round 16 win over the Bulldogs.

Youngster Isaiah Papali'i moves to the bench.
