NZRL to conduct review into Kiwis' disastrous World Cup campaign

November 19, 2017

An independent panel will look into why things went so wrong for New Zealand in the tournament.

New Zealand Rugby League's governing body will conduct a full review into the Kiwis' failure at this year's Rugby League World Cup, CEO Alex Hayton confirmed this morning.

After the Kiwis crashed out of the tournament with an embarrassing 4-2 defeat to Fiji in Wellington last night, an independent panel will be established to determine exactly how things went so wrong.

Addressing media, Hayton made it clear that the game's governing body in New Zealand will look to resolve the issues within rugby league ahead of the 2018 international season.

"We'll be sending a questionnaire out to staff and a selection of players from the team," he said.

"We'll conduct some one-on-one interviews with the aim of having a final report in January next year."

Hayton also revealed that the contracts of the current coaching and support staff finish at the conclusion of this year's World Cup, with those roles looking to be filled by the beginning of the 2018 international season.
