Kiwis selector Tawera Nikau saddened by Bromwich, Proctor's World Cup exodus

Kiwis selector Tawera Nikau has expressed his disappointment at not being able to select the star duo of Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor for this year's World Cup.

The influential duo won't take part in the showpiece event after alleged cocaine scandal.

The pair were allegedly caught trying to purchase cocaine outside of a Canberra nightclub, following the 30-12 loss to Australia in this year's Anzac Test in May.

Coach David Kidwell subsequently decided that neither of the pair will be selected for this year's tournament, having failed to uphold the values of the team.

Speaking to 1 NEWS today, Nikau said that although he was saddened to lose the duo, the right decision had been made.

"Earlier this year, there was some indiscretions. David (Kidwell) and the New Zealand management made a decision, we've stuck by that," Nikau said.

"We want players to come into this team knowing that they're part of this team, part of the culture, but more importantly: that they're all accountable."
