Kiwis looking to restore pride after 2017 World Cup disaster, says Shaun Johnson

October 1, 2018

The halfback makes his return after last year's dismal World Cup.

The Kiwis are out to restore pride following their all-time worst showing at a Rugby League World Cup last year, halfback Shaun Johnson says.

Amid a series of poor on field performances, the Kiwis were eliminated from the 2017 tournament at the quarter-final stage, humiliated by Fiji in Wellington.

However, with the side to return to action against the Kangaroos later this month, Johnson made it clear that the players are ready to stand up and win back the fans.

"It's no secret how we finished up," Johnson began.

"I think the boys in Denver took a big step forward, did a terrific job at playing some entertaining footy, taking that step in the right direction.

"It's about us continuing that momentum... It's about letting the boys know when they come into the group, the expectation and what's expected of them.

"If everyone's on that same page, we'll be able to take our game to a new level, and have some fun along the way."

The Kiwis next face the Kangaroos at Mt Smart Stadium on October 13.
