'He should have stayed in league' - Shaun Johnson pokes fun at former NRL winger Matt Duffie's All Blacks selection

October 23, 2017

The Kiwis star playmaker, Johnson, said he was proud to see Duffie selected in the NZ squad.

Kiwis star playmaker Shaun Johnson has applauded former NRL winger Matt Duffie on his selection in the All Blacks' Northern hemisphere squad today.

At first Johnson had a dig at the one Test Kiwis winger Duffie saying he should have never left the NRL.

"He should have stayed in league," Johnson said jokingly.

"Nah it's awesome aye, it's really cool."

After just one league Test, the former Kiwis winger was named in the All Blacks' Northern hemisphere tour.

Duffie, 27, played 61 NRL games for Melbourne Storm before he made the switch to rugby union, debuting for the Super Rugby franchise the Blues in 2016.

"Whenever you see someone cross codes you always want them to do well – same with Ngani (Laumape)," said Johnson.

"It's awesome seeing them make their mark in that code and hope he goes well."

The All Blacks begin their tour in London where they face a Barbarians side on November 5 next Sunday (NZ time).
