After six seasons with the Warriors, former assistant coach Andrew McFadden has announced he's leaving the Kiwi club to return to his roots in Canberra with the Raiders.

McFadden, who was the head coach of the Warriors for two and a half years until Stephen Kearney took over in 2017, confirmed today he was returning to Australia's capital on a two-year deal.

After playing 76 NRL matches for the Raiders from 1997 to 2001, McFadden began his coaching career in Canberra in 2005 as coach of their Under 20's side before taking control of the club's reserve grade in 2006.

The Raiders said they were happy to welcome home one of their own.

"Andrew is a very qualified Coach who has had experience as an NRL Head Coach in New Zealand," Raiders CEO Don Furner said.

"We are looking forward to him returning to the club and working with Ricky Stuart, Brett White and the playing group."

In his tenure with the Warriors, McFadden earned a 45 per cent win rate as head coach with the side winning 28 of the 62 matches they played underneath him.

McFadden replaces Mick Crawley on the Raiders coaching staff after he departed the club at the end of the season.
