Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, James Tedesco snubbed as English winger claims Golden Boot award

NRL superstar James Tedesco has been snubbed for the prestigious Golden Boot award, with England winger Tommy Makinson named rugby league's best international player for 2018.

The 27-year-old St Helens flyer, who only made his Test debut in June and scored a hat-trick against New Zealand last weekend, beat a field including Tedesco, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Elliott Whitehead to the award handed out by the Rugby League International Federation.

The award only took in performances in internationals since last year's World Cup final. Tedesco was overlooked despite being named man of the match in Australia's Test win over Tonga, with his efforts in helping the Sydney Roosters to the NRL premiership and NSW to State of Origin success ignored.

Australia's Isabelle Kelly was named the inaugural Women's Golden Boot winner.
