'The boys are good eaters' – Liverpool manager on hosting Kiwis, and his love for the haka

October 31, 2018

Jurgen Klopp spoke of his delight at the Kiwis sharing his Melwood training complex.

Liverpool Football Club boss Jurgen Klopp couldn't hide his delight at hosting the Kiwis, with New Zealand's rugby league stars making the most of the facilities at the Premier League giants' Melwood training ground.

With the Kiwis currently in the UK for a three-Test series with England, Michael Maguire's side stopped off for another trip to Liverpool's training centre, getting up close and personal with some of football's biggest names.

The admiration goes both ways though, as manager Klopp would reveal.

"(It's) great to have these bunch of real sports guys, it's a big pleasure always," the German tactician said.

"It's really cool, the kitchen enjoys it a lot actually. At least then they know why they do it, because the boys are good eaters.

"They can have whatever they want."

Klopp also revealed his affinity for the haka, having utilised the traditional war dance during his time as a player with FC Mainz in Germany's Bundesliga.

"I love it. I love the intensity.

"When we drove on the bus to the stadium, the last two minutes was always the haka. When we opened the door and left the bus for the stadium, you could hear the last few seconds of it.

"It helped us a lot, it bought us in a pretty special mood, we used it for two-three years.

"I'm always happy when I head it, especially live.

"It's a very interesting experience, I can only recommend to anybody - if you've never seen it before, you have to."

The Kiwis face England at Liverpool's Anfield on Monday morning NZT.
