Watch: Lydia Ko's greatest ever shot ends two year victory drought and brings plenty of tears

April 30, 2018

Triumphant Lydia Ko admitted she shocked herself with her masterclass performance in the first playoff hole, which saw the Kiwi claim the LPGA Mediheal Championship title today in California, her first tournament win since July 2016.

Ko hit an impressive eagle three on the par five 18th hole to take out the California LPGA event at Lake Merced Golf Club in San Francisco.

Immediately after the win an emotional Ko embraced her caddie and began to cry before hugging her family and friends.

"Yeah I hit some really good three woods today and I said 'hey you got to maybe try copy the one on the other par five.' I was able to hit a good shot again and I didn't really know how close it was going to be," Ko told Golf Channel's commentator Jerry Foltz.

"It's crazy because I was three over of the day at one stage but I said 'hey you just got to focus and you never know what is going to happen.'"

The last time Ko won a title was the Marathon Classic in Ohio in 2016.

"I was able to put my game together in the back nine."

The 21-year-old said the win was a big moment for her support crew and team.

"Yeah a lot of emotions with my team and family, they've worked really hard for this moment so I am happy that a few of them are here and we get to celebrate together."

Ko's Australian rival Minjee Lee sank her birdie putt in the first play-off hole, but it wasn’t enough with the Kiwi sinking an eagle putt to claim victory.
