New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko is in the hunt at the LPGA’s latest event in Thailand, sitting just two shots shy of the leaders after a strong first round.
Ko continued her impressive 2021 form with a first-round score of six-under at Chonburi, collecting six birdies in a blemish-free first day.
Ko made her intentions known early too, with birdies on the first and third before adding four more on the seventh, 11th and 12th holes before finishing the day how she started with one last birdie on the 18th.
The former world No.1’s performance put her in a three-way tie for fifth alongside Australian Hannah Green and Germany’s Caroline Masson while Thai duo Patty Tavatanakit and Atthaya Thitikul share the lead at eight-under.
Ko has had a strong start to 2021 with the Kiwi earning five top-10 finishes from her seven tournaments, including a drought-ending win at the LOTTE Championship last month.
Her other two results were a tie for 26th at the Kia Classic in March and her only cut missed so far this season at the LA Open last month.
