As it happened: Lydia Ko plays incredible shot in playoff to end LPGA title drought

Welcome to 1 NEWS NOW's live coverage of the final day of the LPGA Mediheal Championship in California, where Kiwi star Lydia Ko is in the hunt for her first tournament win since 2016.

1pm: Victory for Lydia Ko! Her title drought is over. 

Lee can only manage a birdie on the first playoff hole, giving Ko the chance for eagle and the win - and she's done it!!! Lydia Ko is in tears, winning her first title since 2016!!!

Ko with her second shot now, and that is brilliant!!! She'll have an eagle putt to put real pressure on Lee!

How can Lee respond? She finds the rough, advantage Lydia!!!

Right, the playoff will start on the 18th, Lydia Ko to tee off first. That's a solid effort first up from the Kiwi, right in the middle of the fairway! 

Lee is up next, and goes closer than Ko!

Here we go then, Lydia will go for eagle and the win. She's missed it by less than a foot! She has a tap in for a birdie, and a play-off. She makes the tap in and we've got a play-off!!!

Lydia's second shot sees her just short of the green, she'll have a chip for eagle and the championship, however a birdie will mean a play-off.

Lee goes close to the hole on her third shot, she'll be putting for birdie and the lead. Lee gets the birdie and she takes the lead on the final hole to finish at -12!

Lee's out in front on the final hole. Ko's tee shot drifts left to put her in a tricky position on her approach to the green.

Lydia Ko with her attempt at birdie on the 17th, and she's missed! She gets the tap in. Meanwhile Korda misses her go at par to drop to -8, and effectively out of contention.

Ko finds the green with her tee shot on the 17th! She'll have a putt for birdie and the outright lead.

But hang on a second! Lee chips in for birdie on the 17th to grab a share of the lead once again!

Lydia's second shot just rolls off the green, giving her two attempts to save par on the 16th. The birdie putt just pulls up short, giving her a tap in for par at least.

Lee has an attempt for par now, she needs this if she's going to stop Ko, and she gets it!

Ko's at the tee on the 16th and absolutely belts it onto the fairway! Meanwhile, Minjee Lee is in the bunker looking for the green with her second shot.

Ko's eagle attempt kisses the edge of the cup before rolling away. However, she grabs the birdie to regain the lead - and she knows it! Three holes to go for the Kiwi!

Ko's second shot on the 15th now. She's nailed this right onto the green and will have a decent go at an eagle to regain the lead!

Just in front of Ko and Korda is Lee though, who has a huge putt for eagle, and the outright share of the lead. She's gone so close there, but can't sink it. She'll have a putt for birdie and a share of the lead instead. She's got it, and got one back on Lydia Ko.

Ko's tee shot at the 15th is beautiful! Straight down the fairway on the par five. Korda follows suit, before her shot tails away to left.

Ko grabs par on the 14th, keeping her one shot lead over Lee.

Minjee Lee bogeys the 14th and Lydia Ko is in front once again!

Ko nails a birdie on the 13th! A brilliant chip in from just off the green sees the Kiwi regain her share of the lead! Korda misses her birdie putt to slip two shots back from the leaders.

Korda drops a shot on the 12th, dropping behind the leaders, while Ko pars to stay in front. Meanwhile one hole in front on the 13th, Minjee Lee sinks a birdie to move into position as outright leader.

Another twist! We've now got a three way tie for the lead, after a bogey from Ko, a par from Konta, and birdie from Lee!

There we go! Ko takes the lead back with a birdie on the 10th, while Korda can only make a bogey! The Kiwi hits the lead in style. Minjee Lee has also dropped a shot to fall back to -8 and third place!

Another twist! A bogey for Ko and a par for Korda, along with a birdie for Lee means we've now got a three way tie at the top!

Contrasting fortunes for Ko and Korda on their approach to the ninth tee. Ko's got herself a decent chance at a birdie putt, while Korda will be battling to save par after finding the rough. 

The American has a chip from just off the green which she does brilliantly to get close to the hole! Ko will putt for birdie now, but her effort stops on the rim of the cup! So unlucky there. 

Korda with her chance for par now, and she's got it to keep her lead.

Korda can only par the eighth hole, giving Lydia a chance to grab a share of the lead once again with a birdie putt. Albeit, she is a fair distance away from the hole, but the way her short game went yesterday, she'll be hopeful.

Her shot just  curves away to the right of the hole. She keeps her composure to grab par.

Lydia storms back with a birdie on the seventh! Korda also has a birdie putt on the same hole for the outright lead, and she's got it as well.

Bad news for Lydia now, a bogey on the sixth, coupled with a par for Korda and a birdie for Minjee Lee on the seventh means that the Kiwi drops to third.

Another par apiece for Ko and Korda on the fifth hole. Minjee Lee has moved back into third place, not just one shot back from the front two.

Another bogey for Ko, coupled with a par for Korda on the fourth sees the Kiwi drop another shot. The lead is not split between the two.

Ko and Korda matching each other shot for shot right now. Another par to each of them, this time on the third, meanwhile Minjee Lee drops a shot to fall to a tie for third.

Good morning! It's been a bit of a bad start for Lydia, coming away with a bogey from her first hole! However, not all is lost with Jessica Korda following suit. The Kiwi still holds her one shot lead.

PREVIEW

After a third round score of a five-under 67, Kiwi starlet Lydia Ko holds a one shot lead at the front of the pack in Daly City.

Ko, 21, hasn't claimed an LPGA tournament win since July 2016, even slipping from world number one all the way down to 18 in the process.

However, today could be the day that Ko finds her golden touch once again, hoping to hold off her closest competitors Jessica Korda of the USA and Minjee Lee of Australia.
