American golfer Zach Johnson nails insane boomerang putt at US Open

September 18, 2020

American golfer Zach Johnson has pulled off one of the shots of the opening round at the US Open at Winged Foot with an impressive boomerang-like birdie putt.

Midway through his round, Johnson found himself on a bumpy green at the first hole with a chance to move back to par for the round.

But rather than aim his putt at the flag, Johnson opted to aim much further to the right of it and past it with his sights instead firmly set on a small bank.

It worked to perfection.

Johnson's putt rolled near the top of the bank before turning around and slowly making it's way all the way back to the hole, leaving Johnson putting his hands on his head in disbelief that he'd just pulled it off.

Johnson finished up in a tie for 22nd after the eventful day, five shots behind fellow American Justin Thomas.

The only other shot that could contest Johnson's for best so far belongs to Patrick Reed who holed out an ace on the par-three seventh hole.
