December 4, 2018

New Zealand made history at the tournament, finishing third in Uruguay.

The Young Football Ferns were greeted with much fanfare upon their arrival home from the Under-17 World Cup in Uruguay, having finished third to secure New Zealand's best ever result at a FIFA tournament.

With bronze medals draped around their necks, the team were welcomed by friends and family, having spent the better part of the last month in South America.

New Zealand defeated Canada 2-1  in the third place play-off on Sunday morning NZT, the first time a Kiwi side has ever been on the podium at a global tournament.

Cheers erupted as the Young Football Ferns emerged into the arrivals lounge, before the team gathered in a huddle for a team song.

The squad will now head their separate ways, although expect more in the future from the team, with the majority all but certain to one day don the Football Ferns' jersey.
