Watch: Former Phoenix prodigy Tyler Boyd scores unstoppable screamer in Portuguese Premier League

April 23, 2018

Former Wellington Phoenix U23s star Tyler Boyd has stunned the Portuguese Premier League after scoring a sensational goal in extra time this morning.

Boyd, who departed the Kiwi A-League club in 2015 to play European football, scored for Tondela in the first minute of added time in their 3-0 win over Aves.

The 23-year-old used a silk body feint to get around his defender in the penalty box before using a perfectly-placed curled shot into the top left corner to beat the keeper.

Boyd made his professional debut in 2012 with the Phoenix as a 17-year-old before making his international debut two years later against Japan.

In his time with the Wellington-based club, he was scored four goals in 48 A-League appearances while also adding 10 goals in six appearances for the Phoenix Reserves.

Boyd then departed for Portuguese top side Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2015 on a four-year deal before being loaned out to Tondela last year.

He has scored four goals in 23 appearances for his loan club.
