TVNZ FC: Spurs sack Pochettino and All Whites lose but show some spark

November 20, 2019

The panel reacts to the shock sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, and positive signs for the new-look All Whites.

The timing of Tottenham’s sacking of manager Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the international window has been labelled “odd” by the TVNZ FC panel.

With Spurs languishing in 14 th on the Premier League table with 14 points from 12 games, the Argentine’s dismissal was not a complete surprise, but the timing does not give Tottenham much time to hire Pochettino’s successor before they face West Ham United this weekend.

Jose Mourinho is one of the names linked to the Tottenham job, but the TVNZ FC panel wondered how he would work under the frugal Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Particularly when he is used to having large transfer budgets at Chelsea and Manchester United, where he has managed previously.

There were also a number of positives for Danny Hay’s new look All Whites despite the defeat to Ireland.
