TVNZ FC: Could Mark Rudan take over the All Whites while coaching the Phoenix?

February 13, 2019

Chris Chang and the panel analyse our interview with Phoenix coach Mark Rudan and look at some of the Premier League managers suffering this week.

Wellington Phoenix coach Mark Rudan hasn't ruled out the possiblity of coaching the All Whites in the future, saying he's open to "anything and everything".

Rudan spoke to TVNZ FC about the possibility of becoming the New Zealand national coach after winning over Kiwi fans in his first season at the helm of the Phoenix, who currently sit sixth in the A-League and on the verge of ending their four-year playoffs drought.

"Being a national team football coach was never really on my radar, particularly early on in my coaching career," Rudan said.

"But there's been a bit of noise. There's been a bit of talk about that but right now I respect the person that's in charge.

"I'm open for anything and everything but it's got to be the right job at the right time."

The TVNZ FC panel, this week featuring host Chris Chang with Simon Plumb and Jack Mabire, also talk about Rudan, discussing how he's changed things at the club this season after the initial scepticism that was about when the Aussie coach got the gig.

Elsewhere, the panel discuss Manchester City's thrashing of Chelsea with a particular focus on Sergio Aguero's mental strength to overcome missing an early sitter to go on and score a hattrick.

There's also talks about coaches this week, with focus given to City's Pep Guardiola and his desire to always want more goals, Marco Silva being in hot water in Everton after a recent run of losses and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez's foul mood after his keeper's horrible blunder in injury time to throw away a win.
