Let the sledging begin! 'We are going to beat them!' exclaims Peru's president as All Whites beckon

October 12, 2017

After his side qualified for next month's intercontinental playoff for a place at next year's football World Cup, Peruvian president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski says he is confident of beating New Zealand to seal a spot in Russia next year.

Peru's 1-1 draw with Colombia yesterday saw them grab fifth spot in South America's CONMEBOL qualification group, sealing a two-legged playoff against the All Whites.

In a video posted on Twitter, Kuczynski said that he is confident that his side will seal qualification for next year's global showpiece.

"We will have to go through New Zealand, but that's okay," he said.

"It's a beautiful country but we are going to beat them.

"Long live Peru and thank you to the coach Gareca and thank you to everybody."

The All Whites meet Peru in the first leg of their intercontinental playoff in early November.
