All Whites midfielder Michael McGlinchey has admitted that he pushed stand-in skipper Chris Wood off the ball before scoring his free kick goal in the 6-1 win over the Solomon Islands in Albany last night.
With the All Whites leading 4-1, and with Wood having already scored twice, the striker stepped up to the dead ball looking to complete his hat-trick.
McGlinchey however, had other ideas.
"I said to him, this is more my range - a bit closer in," McGlinchey said.
"He said nah I'm on a hat-trick, I'm having it."
"I said, look come on just let me have it, he said ok - and I put it in the top bin."
Wood would complete his hat-trick in the final moments of the game, putting his own free kick into the back of the Solomon Islands' net.
