'He's having a nightmare!' Paraguay's distraught captain concedes two own goals to New Zealand at U17 World Cup

October 10, 2017

A brave New Zealand under 17 side have ended up on the wrong side of a six-goal thriller this morning in their World Cup match against Paraguay in Mumbai, India.

It was a nightmare start for the Kiwis after they conceded an audacious free kick from the South Americans in the opening minutes of play of their second Group B clash.

However, the New Zealanders regained composure later on, shocking their opponents to take the lead thanks to two own goals from Paraguayan defender and captain Alexis Duarte.

The Kiwis were on the verge of an important victory, taking their 2-1 lead into halftime until disaster struck late on.

Paraguay pounced on some sloppy defending to reclaim the lead in the space of three minutes after the break before capping off the 4-2 win with a goal in stoppage time.

New Zealand could still finish their pool second should they win their final pool game against Mali on Friday morning NZT.

A loss would see them enter the round of 16 as Group B’s third seed and facing a top seed from another pool.

NZ drew one-all with Turkey in their first match.
