Former teammate and flatmate Alex Rufer is thrilled with Singh's recent transfer.

Wellington Phoenix midfielder Alex Rufer spoke today about the joy at seeing former teammate Sarpreet Singh complete a move to European powerhouse Bayern Munich.

Following a stellar season with the Phoenix, and an impressive under-20 World Cup in Poland, Singh was quickly snapped up by the German giants, swapping Wellington for Bavaria this coming season.

Addressing media today, longtime teammate for club and country Rufer spoke about what Singh's transfer means for him.

"That's awesome," Rufer said.

"I lived with Sarpreet last year, he's a good mate of mine. He deserves everything.

"He worked hard, and hopefully we can get a few more boys over there."

Rufer also gave an update on Singh acclimatising to Germany, preparing for a season with Bayern's reserve team in the 3.Bundesliga.

"He's enjoying it. He's been working hard and says he's been loving it - good on him."

Meanwhile, Singh even being on Bayern's radar bodes well not just for the Phoenix, but for New Zealand Football as a whole, Rufer continued to say.

"As we saw with Sarpreet, class player and a massive club came in and got him.

"Hopefully, this season a few more youngsters can do well, and maybe they can go over and join him."
